Recovery Facts
The New High Pressure
Gas R410A
There is a lot of concern about the
new R410A gas entering the market today. The whole scope of recovery has changed
due to the big difference in pressures and characteristics of this new
refrigerant. We hope to clear up some of the questions with the following
information.
R410A – What You Should Know:
-
R410A is an HFC azeotropic
mixture of HFC-32 and HFC-125. It is designed to replace R-22 in new air
conditioning and refrigeration applications.
-
As a rule of thumb R410A has
about 1.6 to 1.8 times the pressure of R-22.
-
R410A is more dense and carries
a higher caloric heat load.
-
R410A is more environmentally
friendly but it is still deadly in confined spaces.
-
R410A requires special POE
moisture absorbing oil. The moisture can only be fully removed from a system
by changing the oil in the compressor.
-
You must use a leak detector
specifically designed to detect R410A.
-
R410A is more expensive than
R-22 so you will want to recover all of it.
-
Equipment manufacturers have
their own name for it, Carriers Puron etc.
Tools
and Accessories Needed for R410A:
-
A Recovery machine designed for
the higher pressures and temperatures of R410A with a 550 psi shut off maximum
pressure.
-
A Recovery machine with high
ambient temperature operation capabilities able to pull the deep vacuum
necessary for complete removal of R410A.
-
Gauges and hoses made for
higher pressures, temperatures and the new demands of the azeotropic gas
mixture that makes up R410A.
-
Recovery cylinder with minimum
400 psi working pressure 600 psi relief.
